🚍 Transforming Transit with AI 🦺

Vanderbilt researchers, led by Associate Professor Abhishek Dubey, are at the forefront of revolutionizing public transit in Nashville! 🚦 With nearly $2 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the team is collaborating with WeGo Public Transit to optimize bus services along Murfreesboro Pike—Nashville's busiest route.

Using real-time data, predictive modeling, and smart traffic signals, the project aims to tackle critical challenges like bus bunching and gapping. This innovation promises:

+ Improved on-time performance
+ Reduced wait times
+ Better service for marginalized populations

WeGo CEO Steve Bland highlights how this initiative will not only enhance Murfreesboro Pike’s high-frequency service but also pave the way for expansion across other routes in the system.

📍 Team highlights: Vanderbilt's David Rogers, Jose Paolo Talusan, and Ayan Mukhopadhyay, alongside Penn State’s Aron Laszka, are key contributors to this groundbreaking project, along with the lead of the project, WeGo's Dan Freudberg.

As Dubey says, “This project leverages existing infrastructure and partnerships, with a plan for expansion to additional routes.” We can't wait to see how this shapes the future of transit in Tennessee and beyond!
