ISIS User Account Information

Your ISIS credentials authenticate you to ISIS services.  It is separate and distinct from your VUNet ID, which you can activate at https://it.vanderbilt.edu/accessvu.

Login to the ISIS website at http://www.isis.vanderbilt.edu and complete your profile by clicking on the “My Account”.  This will get you listed in the People directory on the website and also validate your ISIS credentials.  The ISIS wired network only allows SSH from external networks.  If you require remote access to the ISIS wired network, use the VUIT VPN client

If you are working with the DOC Group, you may also need a DRE account

If you have any questions or for further information, create a request via Jira or email ISIS-IT@vanderbilt.edu if you are unable to login to the Jira system.

Questions About CUI

Note: It is important to note that per 32 CFR Part 2002 (which defines the federal CUI program requirements) Vanderbilt University is only required to comply with CUI requirements when there is an agreement in place (grant, contract, etc.) that informs us that CUI will be provided and states the requirements for handling.

Scenario 1: You receive an unsolicited email marked as CUI. If an email is received and marked as CUI, then it is the responsibility of the sender to state how it needs be stored/restricted. Each government agency/sponsor has its own CUI Policies so the answer to this question is going to largely depend on who is sending the email.

Scenario 2: You receive an email from NSF marked as CUI. NSF is a bit of a tricky one as there is a known issue that has been brought up to their leadership (by VU and other institutions) about program officers and others marking things as CUI when they really mean that it is confidential; so the guidance would be the same here, if something is marked as CUI then we should immediately respond to the sender and ask them if it is in fact CUI how it needs to be stored, or if they truly mean that it is simply confidential. NSF issued a notice regarding their specific CUI policy a few months ago and almost immediately rescinded it because the community needed additional guidance on how they expected universities to handle items marked as CUI.
