CAREER: Robust Online Decision Procedures for Societal Scale CPS

This project focuses on improving how large, complex systems—like transportation networks or emergency response operations—make decisions in real time. These systems are constantly changing and often unpredictable, requiring decisions that not only respond to current conditions but also anticipate future impacts. The goal of this research is to develop smarter, more adaptable methods that can help these systems operate more efficiently and reliably, even in the face of uncertainty.

In addition to advancing the underlying technology, the team is building a cloud-based, interactive learning environment that allows students and practitioners to explore and experiment with these decision-making tools. This platform will make it easier for people from a wide range of backgrounds—not just computer science—to understand and manage complex systems. By combining research and education, the project aims to support better decision-making in areas like transportation, emergency services, and energy management, while also preparing the next generation of professionals to work with these technologies.
